Hello All,

I wanted to briefly talk about the reasons I changed to the WordPress CMS for my personal - Aaron J Alexander site. You know…Reasons like: SEO, Site Flexibility, and Ease of Use! I will also discuss why I chose the “Elegant Themes” WordPress theme, and its benefits and offerings. Let’s get this show on the road.

Why change from static HTML to the WordPress Content Management System?

HTML is great, and static HTML pages for various applications ( PPC Landing Page Campaigns, Affiliate Marketing Funnels, etc.), is exactly what the doctor ordered. The times when you need fast, simple, shallow sites that aren’t meant to create followers, but are instead meant to convert targeted traffic. These are times when I would build HTML over a CMS. Most sites these days are using CMS because of its ease of use for Noobs aka Newbies. It allows people with limited computer experience to have a website, and post content easily. You generally don’t need a Webmaster to maintain and update your site, although friends that are designers, coders, testers are always a great asset to have around : ] WordPress is also very flexible, in the sense that you can create “Template Pages” that give you the ability to make a “Site using WordPress” look less like a “standard blog”, and more like a full fledged professional site. It really is the best of both worlds.

So what are some of the “SEO Benefits” WordPress offers?

WordPress can grow in functionality, by the addition of niche WordPress Plug-ins. People of various backgrounds design plug-ins out of necessity, profit, or purely out of the kindness of their heart. There are plug-ins for calendaring, tag clouds, forms, polls, social feeds, real estate listings, SEO, and many more. For SEO I use a few tools, although it depends on the theme I use, because some themes like “Elegant Themes templates” have built in SEO for the pages and posts, that work just perfectly. It allows you to add the Title, Keyword, and Description Meta tags seamlessly.If using certain themes or designing a theme in Artisteer, a theme generator software, I use AllinOne SEO plugin which offers a great palette of SEO options, if you know what you are doing. Just be careful, because a lack of experience when choices are made, can make you say: DOH!, in the long run.

For an optimized URL ( site structure is important ) I simply go to the “Settings” in WordPress >”Permalinks” > click the “Custom” and put %postname% as the value, and it will make the title of your posts the url. You can edit the url to be more precise if needed, but if you understand how search engines work as “information retrieval” systems, your titles are likely well intentioned and just perfect.

*You can cancel before the next years billing, and still use all the themes you acquired through your year as a member, but after your year is up, if you don’t renew, you will not have access to the members area, or tech support. Note: This seems more than fair to me, as they have to pay the bills somehow.

Elegant Themes also offers their “ePanel” for the themes, which acts as the “Theme Setting” and allows you to quickly add a logo, manage menus, add favicons, adjust SEO settings, and more. It is very useful and user friendly in my opinion.

I really haven’t had one challenge using the themes, except when picking which one to use. There are a lot of great themes to choose from….but don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself, and let me know how you like your Elegant Themes.
